Allow me to introduce you to Agnes my 2004 Volkswagen California. Yep, I named my van and I believe all campervans and cars should be. Choosing a name isn’t easy. After all, it needs to match your style and be cool at the same time. So if you are not driving a bus from the 70s Daisy or Sunshine probably won’t be very fitting.
Imagen chatting with strangers and other campervan owners when someone asks what you named yours. You don’t want to be caught off guard and be the only one that hasn’t named their van or feel pressured to just say the first name that pops to mind only to be stuck with having no explanation as to why you chose Bob. So how do you pick a name for your campervan?
Choosing a name the traditional way does take a bit of time and possibly a moment of heartache but can land you an interesting backstory and make for a great subject of chitchat for those on-site moments sharing a beer with fellow campers or while in line waiting to empty the gray water tank. It goes like this. The first place you break down or get a flat will be what you name your campervan. Imagine driving out to the lazy seaside village of Anstruther in Scotland. After a day walking about seeing the sites and taking it all in, you come back to the van and find it won’t start. It just happens to be that you are parked curbside in front of a fish and chip shop so decide to call your campervan Chip. Or you could go for Ann. Abbreviating Anstruther and naming after the town. This makes it incredibly important to only travel to interesting places. After all, you don’t really want to be calling your campervan Aldi or Lidl. Having to suffer the embarrassment of explaining how it left you stranded with bags of shopping.
If you are lucky enough as I have been, and haven’t yet broken down or been left stranded. Then it’s entirely up to you and your personal preferences. I have a friend that named her campervan BlueBird. When I asked why. She went on to explain to me that every morning when she starts the engine, it makes a chirping sound like a bird for the first 5 minutes then goes quiet, and the van is blue. A very fitting name I think.
What’s your campervan called?

Our camper / truck is called Monsty because the first time I saw it, I said “it’s a monster” (because it is huge).

Ha I like Bluebird that’s pretty cool. We haven’t named ours yet but the previous owners had named the van “the beast” cause it’s a bit rough around the edges but keeps on going.
