Camper vans are better than tents.

I have camped all my life. In canvas tents, small campers, large motorhomes, trailers and even hammocks between the trees. So I think I have seen enough and experienced my fair share to make up my mind on how I like to camp and travel. I choose the camper van.
I do have a real personal love for camper vans but don’t get me wrong. Tents are the ultimate pop-up home. However, camper vans have the upper hand in that you can drive them. Depending on the camper you shouldn’t have to do much apart for packing away some clothes and kitchenware and maybe de-pop the pop roof and you are ready to move on to the next location. You can imagen already the work needed to pack away a tent along with all the necessary gear. Let’s just say you won’t be making a quick getaway. That’s just the start. I have a bunch of reasons why I choose campervans over tents.
Protection from the elements. I know tent technology has come along way over the years but when faced with howling winds and rain I would rather be in a camper van. The sound of the rain and wind on the shell of a camper van can be very relaxing. But listening to the fluttering guidelines of a tent and constant flapping of the canvas brings stress just waiting for a line to come loose or snap causing catastrophic failure. Oh, the horror.
No sleeping on the ground. So no creeping chill at the bottom of your back. Even with a well-insulated sleeping mat, it’s bound to happen but not in a camper. So no stiff back or interrupted sleep.
Creepy crawlies are hard to find inside unless they are of the flying kind. Even then, a fly net can help keep them out.
They have an electrical power source. Most will have some kind of 12V power even if it’s from the engine battery so charging your phone and camera is a simple task that would need careful planning in a tent. Thow in a leisure battery and an inverter and you can power a whole array of devices from your computer or TV to even espresso machines.
It can be locked up to keep your stuff safe while you head out for a walk, something that a tent just can’t do.
It can be kept ready to go at any moment. I always keep my camper van ready to go. Some simple dry foods and nonperishables in the cupboard under the sink, along with pots and pans and a couple of dishcloths. Also neatly stored away I have a blanket, big upgrade from sleeping bags I have to say. Beach towel and at least one change of clothes. You could do the same with a hikers backpack but you are not going to carry it everywhere you go, are you? Whereas a camper van could be your daily drive. Say you are at a friend’s place and decide to head out on a spontaneous trip somewhere, perhaps to a concert, you got last minute tickets for then you are ready and set to go.
