From as long as I can remember camping has always been a huge part of my life memories. As a child, I remember going to a small fishing village of Anstruther in Scotland to my Grandparent’s caravan for summer holidays… summer in Scotland isn’t all sunshine, beaches, and ice-cream. Far from it. It could be wonderfully sunny and warm one day and then the next you find yourself in a torrential downpour. Naturally, on the sun-filled days, time was spent playing on the beach or walking around the fishing port eating ice-cream. BBQs where always a must while Grandad plotted about maintaining the caravan, making little repairs or pruning the little garden he had been growing. Always happy memories… Rainy days I remember being the best, the smell of tea and coffee mixed with the smells of warm fresh bread rolls and square slices sausages. Smells that would make the caravan glow and brighten the gloomy day outside. Everyone would be inside out of the rain all doing something. Gran would be sat knitting and reading her books. Grandad would be listening to the radio, mostly sports. The rest of us sat around the dining table playing board games or doing our own thing. My pass time was building Airfix model warplanes. I would pick up a couple of model kits while going to the shops for bread and milk in the morning. Knowing that I had always kept a box of paints and tools in one of the cupboards. I could sit for hours tediously cutting, filing, sanding, gluing and painting to create these wonderful miniatures. The sound of pitter-patter of rain on the shell of the caravan softened the murmur of chitchat within making it incredibly relaxing.
So this is where my passions for camping began and on these pages, I’ll take you through my journeys sharing my highs and lows and some tips and tricks I’ve learnt on the way.
